The arrest of the mother of prisoner Shidad Al-A’war while visiting her son in “Hasharon” prison
June 20, 2013

The Israeli police arrested on Tuesday the mother of prisoner Shidad Al-A’war 16, while she was in “Hasharon” prison visiting her son. Amjad Abu Asab, head of Jerusalemites detainees and prisoners families committee, told Wadi Hilweh Information Center that the administration of “Hasharon” prison detained Shidad’s mother for two and a half hours in the waiting room, after she had forgotten her cell phone in the pocket of her dress “Jilbab”. Abu Asab added: “after the first search, a cell phone was unintentionally found in her pocket, where she told the prison’s administration that she forgot it in her pocket but they refused to listen and insisted on detaining her.” He added: “a police car came later on and took her alone to the police station in “Kfar Saba”, where her husband and 5-month baby were not allowed to accompany her.” Abu Asab explained that the prison’s administration prevented Shidad’s mother from visiting him for two months, and also prevented his father from visiting him on Tuesday, knowing that this is the first visit for their son who has been arrested since 05/05/2013. Abu Asab said: “the mother seemed to be very tired and she personally told the prison’s administration that she only slept three hours the night before.” It is noteworthy that the District court extended on Monday the arrest of Shidad Al-A’war until the legal procedures against him are finished and the prosecution refused to release him with a bail and house arrest.
