A campaign to “cutting off water to homes in the Old City of Jerusalem and Silwan”
February 11, 2014

The Israeli Water Company “Gihon” uninstalled the water meters of several houses in the neighbourhoods of the Old City of Jerusalem and Silwan on Monday and Tuesday under the pretext of “accumulation of unpaid debts”. Residents of the Old City said that the water company started a campaign to cut off the water to their homes and uninstalled the water meters of 22 houses in the neighbourhood of Bab Hutta and Al-Wad Street. Among those affected were: Ashraf Zarba, Abu Nader Basti, Hamdi Awad, Zuheir Da’na, Jweihan family and Hadeeb; note that more than 180 individuals live in the houses where most of them are children. The crews also uninstalled the meters of the house of Sharif Qlambo and the African Community organization in the neighbourhood of the African Community near Al-Aqsa Mosque; note that the meters support more than one house. In Silwan, employees of the water company uninstalled the water meters of three houses. It is noteworthy that the Israeli water company uninstalled last year dozens of water meters from houses in Esawyeh and Silwan.
