February 7, 2017

The occupation municipality’s bulldozers demolished on Tuesday a residential building in the neighborhood of Beit Hanina north of Jerusalem without prior notice under the pretext of building without a permit.

Sari Anabtawi, one of those affected, explained that the building is owned by Adel Abu Sneineh and Zakaria Anati. Four apartments have been sold to the Jerusalemite families of Gheith, Abu Nijmeh, Anabtawi and Shweiki. He pointed out that the building consists of 4 floors with 3 apartments on each floor; some of the apartments were ready for their owners to move-in.

Anabtawi explained that the bulldozers along with occupation forces surrounded the building since the morning hours to demolish it but the owners were able to head to court which requested them to pay 20 thousand NIS to postpone the demolition. Afterwards, they were asked to pay 50 thousand NIS.

Anabtawi explained that the owners headed to the post office to pay the required amount but the post office refused to take the money claiming it is a “large amount of money” and needs special procedure during which the bulldozers did not hesitate to demolish the building.
