February 12, 2017

The District Court decided on Sunday the prison sentence against Sheikh Omar Abu Sara (51) from 8 months to 14 months on charges of incitement in a religious lecture he gave inside Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud explained that the Magistrate judge sentenced his client last September to 8 months of actual imprisonment on charges of incitement on violence and racism in a religious lecture he gave at the end of November 2014 inside Al-Aqsa Mosque. On Sunday, the prison sentence was increased to 14 months after the judge approved the appeal submitted by the public prosecution.

Abu Sara was arrested at the beginning of 2015 from his home in “Um Al-Sharayet” north of Jerusalem and was interrogated regarding the lecture he gave on 28/11/2015 at Al-Aqsa Mosque entitled “Jews Characters from the Holy Qur’an”. After five days, he was released on condition of house-arrest until completing the legal procedures against him; he was banned from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque.
