Last Saturday, the Jerusalemite Omar Abu Rajab self-demolished his house in the neighborhood of Al-Bustan in Silwan following an order from the occupation municipality and under the pretext of building without a permit.

Abu Rajab explained that the police requested him last week and informed him of the municipality’s decision to self-demolish his house, or municipality crews would execute the demolition within a week on his own expense and he would have to pay 72 thousand NIS.

Abu Rajab added that the family completely emptied the house on Friday night, and with the help of his son they started the demolition process on Saturday morning. He pointed out that the house is 45 square meters and roofed with tin plates.

The establishment was built in 2005 and was a grocery store. Four months later, Abu Rajab was ordered to close it by the municipality under the pretext of not having a license.

In 2009, he turned it into a small house where his son and his family moved-in. afterwards, Omar Abu Rajab moved-in with his wife and three children.

The occupation municipality’s bulldozers had previously demolished the houses of Omar Abu Rajab and his son Raed last October under the pretext of building without a permit.
