Jerusalemite citizen Hamzeh Abu Ter self-demolishes part of his house
Citizen Hamzeh Ibrahim Abu Ter self-demolished part of his house in the village of Um Tuba south of the city of Jerusalem in order to execute the Jerusalem municipality’s order. Abu Ter explained that he started demolishing part of his house last Saturday (his children’s bedroom and the kitchen) for a total of 50 square meters as he was ordered by the municipality under the pretext of building without a permit. He pointed out that the house was built in 1997 and the municipality imposed building violation fees on him several times for a total of 150 thousand NIS which he will continue paying until 2015 in addition to the 3-month “public service” he had to do at the beginning of last year. He added that he demolished part of the kitchen two months ago but the municipality requested that he fully demolishes it and threatened to imprison him for six months and impose a 50-thousand NIS fee if they had to step in and do the demolishing. Abu Ter pointed out that he will close the rest of his house which is 70 square meters in order to avoid extra fees and fines and noted that he has three children where the oldest is 12 years old and the youngest is 9.
