December 17, 2015

The occupation forces arrested on Wednesday two students from the neighborhood of Ras Al-Amoud in Silwan concurrently with the attempt to storm into Al-Shamilah Boys School in Ras Al-Amoud. Lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud explained that the police arrested the 16-year old Safir Khamis Shihadeh Tahan and 15-year old Mohammad Qasem Mohammad Mibyad and transferred them to Salah Eddin Street police station for interrogation and extended their arrest until Thursday. The students’ families explained that the forces arrested their children after they had left school. The forces attempted to storm into Al-Shamilah Boys School claiming that some students threw stones but the administration and teaching staff as well as guards confronted the forces and prevented them from breaking into the school which has nearly 850 students from 7th to 12th grade. The secretary of district committee of the students’ parents, Isam Abbasi, explained that the school’s director expressed to the head of police unit in Ras Al-Amoud his dismay and condemnation of continuous presence of Israeli police around the school especially in the morning and afternoon hours (when student head to school and after leaving). He asked him not to be present in the area to ensure proper functioning of the educational process. Abbasi added that the forces have been targeting the schools of Ras Al-Amoud through daily presence in front of the schools and stopping and harassing students which leads to the obstruction of the educational process not to mention storming into schools and arresting students from inside classrooms. The occupation authorities continued to establish checkpoints in Silwan and pulled vehicles over and checked the IDs of young men; they also searched several students. The forces also raided the neighborhood of Bi’er Ayoub in Silwan and arrested Walid Shweiki and one worker for no reason.
