December 20, 2018

The Jerusalemite Qasem Mohammad Abbasi, 17, was martyred and 3 others were wounded when the occupation soldiers opened fire towards their vehicle at Beit El checkpoint north of Al-Bireh.

Wadi Hilweh Information Center/ Silwan learned from the Abbasi family that the Martyr Qasem was accompanied by his relatives. The family was surprised by the news of the shooting at the family’s vehicle, and tried to contact their sons several times but to no avail.

The family added that the news contradicted about the name of the martyr and the condition of those present in the vehicle, especially with the occupation authorities not revealing any information on the identity of the martyr. After several hours, the Palestinian District Coordination Office informed the secretary of Fateh movement in Jerusalem Shadi Mattour that the martyr who was shot by the occupation is Qasem Mohammad Ali Abbasi.

The injured were Mohammad Hani Abbasi, 28, and Mohammad and Mahmoud Ma'mun Abbasi. They were lightly and moderately injured. They were taken to the hospital for treatment, and are under arrest.

The occupation soldiers claimed that the driver of the vehicle tried to storm the Beit El checkpoint, the soldiers shot him and seriously wounded him before announcing his death, which the family denied.

Mohammad Nu’man Abbasi explained that the Israeli police officially informed the family of the martyrdom of one of the family members and wounded 3, while refused to talk about the name of the martyr.

Abbasi added that the police asked them to evacuate the hospitals from the Abbasi family and their friends who went to check on the injured family members and threatened to force them out.

Abbasi family denied the charge against the youths and the argument why they were fired at, pointing out that the youths were on their way to Nablus.
