A settler sets fire in the Gethsemane Church in Jerusalem
On Friday afternoon, a settler set fire in the "All Nations - Gethsemane" Church, located near Lions Gate in Jerusalem.
The church guard told the Wadi Hilweh Information Center that a settler entered the church and sprayed a burning substance and set fire inside the church causing damage to some seats and the floor;the fire was quickly brought under control.
The guard added that the settler tried to escape from the place, but he was caught.
He explained that contact they contacted the police who came to the scene, and arrested the settler.
The Council of Heads of Catholic Churches in the Holy Land issued a statement saying: “A religious Jewish man attacked the Gethsemane Church in Jerusalem, and a fire was set inside it. We thank God that the fire was quickly extinguished and that the fire caused only minor damage. We thank the police for their quick response and the arrest of the suspect, and demand a serious investigationto this case, and to bring the perpetrator to justice.
The council called to seriously examine the motives for the attack, in particular, and that suspicions indicate that it may have been caused by racist motives!
The council stated that this church was built on the rock on which Jesus Christ prayed prior to his arrest and crucifixion.
