Day 59: Al-Aqsa Flood Operation in the city of Jerusalem
December 4, 2023

On the 59th day of “Al-Aqsa Flood” Operation, schools “affiliated with the Israeli Ministry of Education” refused to receive students “liberated prisoners in the exchange deal,” while the siege imposed on Al-Aqsa Mosque continued, and campaigns of raids and arrests continued in the city.

Liberated in the Exchange Deal and Education

By order of the "Israeli Ministry of Education", school administrations in the city of Jerusalem refused to allow the students released in the exchange deal to return to their classrooms.

The Wadi Hilweh Information Center learned that messages via the “WhatsApp” application were circulated to school administrations stating, “There are instructions regarding the released students...the students may not be returned to schools until further notice”. According to the age of the students, they were supposed to return to the last school they attended before arrest, but due to the circumstances of the release, instructions were issued by the Ministry of Education not to allow these students to currently return to their schools.

The Center learned that a final decision has not been made on the issue of students returning to schools, as a session will be held that includes representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Municipality, and Intelligence, to discuss the matter.

Siege of Al-Aqsa

The occupation authorities continue to impose their siege on Al-Aqsa Mosque, preventing entry to it except for Islamic Endowments employees and the elderly, most of whom are from the Old City.

The occupation authorities continue to deploy their forces at the gates of Al-Aqsa, and on the roads leading to it, to prevent young men in particular from entering it.

108 settlers carried out their raids into Al-Aqsa courtyards, during the morning and afternoon periods, under the protection of the occupation police.

The "alleged temple groups" distributed invitations to organize daily and mass raids into Al-Aqsa during the week of Hanukkah next week.

Siege of Sur Baher and Umm Tuba

For the fourth day in a row, the occupation authorities imposed a siege on the villages of Umm Tuba and Sur Baher, placing cement cubes at the secondary and main entrances and police barriers on the roads, and a strike was declared in the schools of the two villages. The forces also stormed the village of Sur Baher and raided many shops.

In the evening hours, the occupation authorities removed the cement cubes from the entrances, and accordingly, the parents’ committees announced the return of schools.

Raids and arrests

The occupation forces stormed towns and neighborhoods in the city of Jerusalem, and carried out arrests of a woman and a young man from the neighborhoods of the city.
