Demolition in Al-Bustan neighborhood
The occupation municipality crews, accompanied by the forces, stormed a residential apartment belonging to Mohammad Khalaf Odeh, in the Al-Bustan neighborhood in Silwan.
The forces surrounded all entrances to the Al-Bustan neighborhood, closed its entrances, and prevented access to the house threatened with demolition. After a complete siege, the forces, accompanied by the municipality crews, stormed the house and demanded that its residents leave it, then proceeded to implement the demolition decision using manual demolition tools.
Odeh explained that the house was built on the land of his ancestors, and he lives in it with his wife and 5 children. It is 80 square meters and has been in existence for 15 years.
The forces, accompanied by the municipality, also stormed the house of Younes Odeh and demanded that he demolish his house within two days.
Odeh explained that the municipality handed him a "demolition decision for the house until 18/7/2024" 20 days ago, and today the municipality crews stormed the house and demanded that he carry out the demolition within two days, otherwise they will do so.
Odeh explained that his house has been in existence since 2016, and 10 people live in it.
The occupation municipality issued demolition decisions for the entire Al-Bustan neighborhood in 2010, to build the "King David's Garden" on the ruins of the neighborhood. The plan and demolition decisions were frozen after the residents refused and international pressure. Over the past years, the residents have tried to license the buildings and plan the neighborhood to preserve their homes and land ownership. In 2021, the municipality rejected the engineering plans for the Al-Bustan neighborhood, and during the recent period, the municipality carried out demolition operations within the neighborhood. The Al-Bustan neighborhood includes 116 houses, housing about 1,550 people, and many of the houses were built before the occupation of Jerusalem.
