Marathon From the Dead Sea to the Red Sea: Participation of Wadi Hilwe‪'s Information Centre
March 23, 2013

For the 16th consecutive year, a 250km Marathon from the Dead to the Red Sea took place in G‪'or al Ordon. The 38 participants came from all over the world. This year‪ Mahmood Qaraeen and Majd Laith from Wadi Hilwe‪'s Information Centre and Madaa‪'s Creative Centre ‪in Silwan, Jerusalem, participated in the Marathon. They were one of a group of 12 called ‪"Run for Silwan‪"; other members included those from Sweden‪, Germany‪, Ethiopia and Canada. They chose this name in order to bring life in Silwan to peoples' consciences as runners must wear T-shirts with their team's name. Daily struggles in Silwan include facing attacks from settlers and operations of the police, municipality and various Israeli authorities working to make Jerusalem Jewish. This year's marathon started at 16‪:00, ending at 11‪:00 the next day. The “Run for Silwan” team completed it in 19‪:42‪:50, winning the title of the best organised team.
