July 3, 2013

The Israeli Magistrate court sentenced on Wednesday five young men from the village of Silwan for actual imprisonment. Al-Dameer organization lawyer, Mohammad Mahmoud, said that the Magistrate court sentenced Majd Aweis (24) for 10 months of actual imprisonment and his brother Mohammad Aweis (29) for 8 months, Thaer Abbasi (22) was sentenced for 7 months and Majd Al-Qaq for 8 months, on charges of membership in an organization. They were arrested after raiding their home in the village of Silwan. Fathi Naser was sentenced for 4 months of actual imprisonment. Mohammad also said that the Israeli Supreme court extended the sentence of the minor Abbas Abbasi (17) for 10 months, where the District court in Jerusalem had sentenced him to 13 months of actual imprisonment last April, but the public prosecution appealed the Supreme court’s decision to add 10 months to his sentence as he was accused of throwing stones and Molotov cocktails in Ras Al-Amoud. Mahmoud pointed out that Ali Abu Diab and Ahmad Al-Qaq were presented to the District court Judge on Wednesday to appeal their sentences; the sentencing session was postponed until the 5th of August. The Magistrate court Judge did not convict both minors Fayez Mheisen and Yousef Dari from Issawiya but imposed a suspended sentence of 4 months for 2 years on them and a bail of one thousand NIS.
