July 3, 2013

The Israeli forces arrested on Wednesday two Jerusalemites from the neighbourhood of Wadi Al-Rababeh in the village of Silwan after raiding the neighbourhood along with employees from the Nature and Parks Authority. Wadi Hilweh Information Center was informed that the Israeli forces arrested Othman Mahmoud Qaraeen 63, and Ahmad Ali Qaraeen 48, and took them to Salah Eddin Street police station in Jerusalem; they were released later on after investigating them for few hours. The police requested Othman Qaraeen to demolish the supporting wall he built as they claim that it was built without having a permit from the Jerusalem municipality and Nature and Parks Authority. Othman Qaraeen confirmed that he was forced to build the supporting wall to protect his home after the collapse of a chain of rocks in the area, pointing out that he created a path for him and his family to be able to get home safely, noting that both him and his wife suffer disabilities in their legs and spine. It is noteworthy that Othman lives with his wife, children and grandchildren in the house which he inherited from his ancestors120 years ago. The Nature and Parks Authority employees had raided the neighbourhood of Wadi Al-Rababeh and took pictures of the home of Shkeir family and the house of Othman Qaraeen.
