Israeli forces prevent the convening of a press conference against the negotiations and violation of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque
The Israeli forces raided the Jerusalem Studies Center in Al-Quds University- Al-Qataneen market in the old city of Jerusalem, and forcibly prevented the convening of a press conference that the National Action Commission had called for to refuse the resume of negotiations in light of the continued settlement activities and assaults on Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Israeli intelligence took the IDs of all participants and attendees and then released them half an hour later. They also hung an order in both Arabic and Hebrew languages on the main entrance of Khan Tankaz to prevent the conference from being held and then closed the main door of the Studies Center and left the place. The prevention order which was issued by Yohnan Danino, Inspector General of Police and which was titled “Closing order” said: “According to my responsibilities in article 6 of preventing terrorism -1948, and after being convinced that the Popular Front, Democratic Front and Hamas will hold an event on 01/10/2013 in Al-Quds University in the old city of Jerusalem, I hereby order to close the university’s offices that are located in Al-Qataneen market and Tal’et Khaldyeh and any other place where the event will be held between 10:00 and 16:00. The Local and National Action Committee denounced the occupation’s government and intelligence actions by preventing the convening of this press conference, and considered this to be a violation of International Law and Charter since they both consider the city of Jerusalem to be occupied and the people and their leaders have the right to practice their activities and express their opinions. The Local and National Action Committee announced that the press conference that was supposed to be held was going to call for stoppage of the negotiations in light of the continued settlement activities in Jerusalem and the West Bank and the daily assaults and raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque which aim at temporally and spatially dividing it. Jerusalemite activist Abdel-Latif Gheith, Ma’moon Abbasi and Suleiman Matar who are members of the Local and National Action Committee, Ziad Hammouri, director of the Jerusalem Center for Economic and Social Rights, and Mazen Ja’bari, director of Youth and Development Department were all supposed to participate in the press conference.
