January 19, 2014

The Israeli police arrested on Sunday morning the 66-year old freed prisoner Mahmoud Da’ajneh “Abu Naser” under the pretext of not paying the taxes imposed on him by the Israeli authorities. Amjad Abu Asab, head of Jerusalemite detainees and prisoners families committee, explained that the occupation forces detained Mahmoud on Saturday night at the checkpoint of Shu’fat Refugee camp for an hour and a half and informed him of the accumulated taxes that he owes to the Israeli authorities. Da’ajneh explained that he was arrested for 21 years and was only released a month ago but the police told him that he needs to check with the “Nabi Yaakov” police station in Beit Hanina. Abu Asab added that Da’ajneh headed to the police station on Sunday morning and after interrogating him the police informed his family that he will be detained until his family pays a bail and a third-party bail in addition to his commitment to paying all the accumulated taxes. The freed prisoner was released within the third group of the veteran prisoner who were arrested before “Oslo” in 1993 after he had spent 21 years in the Israeli prisons on charges of “killing a Jewish woman and forming a cell.”
