Reducing the sentence of 4 young men from Shu’fat refugee camp and extending the arrest of 5 Jerusalemites

The Israeli Supreme court approved the appeal submitted by the lawyers of 4 young Jerusalemite men from Shu’fat refugee camp regarding the prison sentences against them. Mohammad Mahmoud, Al-Dameer organization lawyer, said that the Supreme court held a session on Tuesday to discuss the appeal submitted regarding the prison sentence issued by the District court on Mahmoud Da’ajneh from Shu’fat refugee camp and agreed to reduce it from 30 months to 18 months since the sentence was more than similar other charges. Wadi Hilweh Information Center was informed that the Supreme Court also agreed to reduce the sentence of three other young men who were charged in the same case from 40 months to 28 months. They are: 22-year old Fadi Zaki Sa’ed, 19-year old Rabee’ Naji Sa’ed and 23-year old Mohammad Omar Anati. The sentence against the four young men was issued last May; note that they were arrested in November of 2012 and were interrogated in Al-Maskobyeh cells. In a related matter, the Magistrate court judge extended the arrest of 19-year old Ayman Abu Nijmeh, 18-year old Omar Mazen Abu Khater and 18-year old Majdi Emra Aweida until Sunday; note that the Prisoner’s Club lawyer, Mufeed Al-Hajj, and lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud defended them. The two brothers, Emad and Ashraf Abbasi, were presented to court on Wednesday and the judge extended their arrest until next Wednesday. Extending the house arrest imposed on two brothers Also, Mohammad Akram Al-Basti and his brother Ihab from the neighbourhood of Bab Hutta were presented to the Magistrate court on Wednesday on charges of throwing stones and the judge extended the duration of the house arrest imposed on them. Amjad Al-Basti said that the Israeli forces had arrested his 15-year old nephew, Amjad, last Friday during the clashes that broke out in Bab Hutta and then released him after paying a 2000-NIS bail and signing another bail of 7500 NIS and house arrest until the court date; during the session the judge scheduled a hearing session for Amjad on 02/02/2014 to submit an indictment against him. The 19-year old Ihab was also presented to court and a hearing session for him was scheduled on the 6th of March, 2014; note that he has been under house arrest for 8 months.
