Sentencing the Jerusalemite woman Alia Abbasi
The District court in Jerusalem sentenced on Thursday the 49-year old Jerusalemite woman Alia Al-Sheikh Ali Abbasi for 40 months of actual imprisonment after she was convicted of an attempt to stab an Israeli soldier in 2012. The head of Jerusalemites detainees and prisoners families committee, Amjad Abu Asab, said that Alia was arrested on 2/1/2012 from the checkpoint of Shu’fat refugee camp and was released on 22/2/2012 on condition of house arrest since then. Alia will turn herself in on 3/8/2014 to complete her prison sentence; note that she is a resident of Silwan. It is noteworthy that Alia has six children and is the mother of the Jerusalemite prisoner Issa Daoud Abbasi who has been in prison since 2010 and is serving a 10-year prison sentence.
