Update: Settlers take over 23 residential apartments in Silwan
Early on Tuesday morning, Elad Settlement Association took over 23 residential apartments in the neighborhoods of Wadi Hilweh and Baydoun south of Al-Aqsa Mosque. Wadi Hilweh Information Center explained that the occupation forces along with the settlers of Elad Association raided Silwan at 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday. After the forces were deployed all over the neighborhoods and alleys, they started taking over the houses that were empty of their owners except one house in which the residents were forced to leave. The Center added that the property included 10 residential building and individual apartments. According to the available information, the confiscated apartments are owned by the families of Baydoun, Karaki, Abu Sbeih, Zawahreh, Abbasi, Khayyat, Qaraeen and Al-Yamani. The Center predicts that some of the apartments have been sold y their owners using twisted methods. Wadi Hilweh Center denounced the unprecedented settlement attack in Silwan and said in a statement: “Even if those apartments were sold, it is still an illegal process of taking-over Arabs’ houses which is conducted by Elad Association which has been applying their agenda over the last few years using various methods.” The Center appealed for the Palestinian Authority and the National and Islamic powers to legally prosecute those who sold their houses. The locals of Silwan also requested to boycott those people. Wadi Hilweh Center pointed out that clashes broke out on Tuesday morning in one of the confiscated apartments after the settlers were kicked out; the settlers’ guards fired live ammunition to disperse the locals. The Center noted that the number of settlement outposts in Silwan has risen this morning to 29 in which 26 of them are in the neighborhood of Wadi Hilweh knowing that Elad Settlement Association confiscated the first house in 1987 and then carried out a wide campaign or confiscating houses in 1991.
