The 50-year old Jerusalemite Alia Abbasi turned herself in to the administration of Al-Ramleh prison on Wednesday to serve her 26-month prison sentence. Amjad Abu Asab, head of Jerusalemites detainees and prisoners families committee, explained that Abbasi was arrested on 2/1/2012 from Shu’fat refugee camp and was released on 22/2/2012 and has been under house-arrest since then (38 months). Abu Asab added that the District court sentenced Abbasi for 40 months of actual imprisonment on charges of an attempt to stab an Israeli soldier in 2012. After appealing the decision, the Supreme Court reduced the sentence to 26 months. Abu Asab also explained that Abbasi has six children and is the mother of the Jerusalemite prisoner Issa Daoud Abbasi who has been imprisoned since 2010 and is serving a 10-year prison sentence; they are residents of Silwan. He also pointed out that the number of Jerusalemite female prisoners has risen to four females inside the occupation prisons.
