Sentencing seven Jerusalemites…Minister “Ardan” requests to increase the sentences imposed on young men from Esawyeh

The District court sentenced on Monday seven young Jerusalemite men for periods between 22 and 50 months. The young men are from the villages of Esawyeh and Jabal Al-Mukabber and the neighborhood of Al-Thori in Silwan. Esawyeh… Amjad Abu Asab, head of Jerusalemites detainees and prisoners families committee, explained that the District judge sentenced the 20-year old Walid Daoud Hasan Alayan for 44 months, Ibrahim Mohammad Odeh Dirbas for 40 months, 20-year old Mohammad Kamal Ahed Obeid for 30 months and the 20-year old Ali Mohammad Bassam Ata Alayan for 22 months of actual imprisonment on charges of membership in the Democratic Front for the liberation of Palestine and throwing stones and Molotov Cocktails at the occupation forces. The detainees have been under arrest since April 2014 and are currently imprisoned in Nafha desert prison. Al-Dameer organization lawyer, Mohammad Mahmoud, explained that the District judge sentenced the 20-year old Walid Alayan for 52 months of actual imprisonment and a fine of 12500 NIS. Lawyer Mahmoud also explained that the public prosecution threatened to appeal the District court’s decision regarding the “reduced” sentences against the young men of Esawyeh and requested to imprison them between 20-40 months. The so-called “Minister of Internal Security”, Gilad Ardan” recommended to the State Attorney General to appeal to the decision at the Supreme Court under the pretext of "easy punishment" imposed on them. The Minister said: “The sentences issued by the District judge against young men from Esawyeh are reduced and easy in accordance with the charges against them”. They were accused of setting a synagogue on fire in the settlement of “French Hill” in Jerusalem and throwing Molotov Cocktails towards settlers’ vehicles while passing through the street leading to the settlement of “Maale Adomim” and towards the gas stations at the entrance of the village of Esawyeh in addition to throwing Molotov Cocktails at the military camp near the village and the parking lot of Hadassah hospital. Jabal Al-Mukabber… In a related matter, Abu Asab added that the District judge sentenced the 22-year old Jerusalemite prisoner Amro Ali Sabri Abdo from Jabal Al-Mukabber for 50 months of actual imprisonment and convicted him of “planning to carry out a military attack”; Abdo suffers from a difficult psychological situation and is isolated in Nafha cells. He has been arrested since 14/1/2014. Silwan… Abu Asab also added that the Magistrate judge sentenced the 21-year old Mahmoud Mohammad Ayoub Hadyeh from the neighborhood of Al-Thori in Silwan for one and a half years of actual imprisonment on charges of participating in illegal protests and events. Hadyeh has been detained since 31/12/2014 and was transferred in between several prisons and is currently imprisoned in Eshel desert prison.
