Extending the duration of detaining 4 Jerusalemite children inside internal rehabilitation institutions

The District Court judges decided to extend the duration of detaining 4 Jerusalemites children inside internal rehabilitation institutions.

Wadi Hilweh Information Center was informed that the District judge extended the duration of detaining 14-year old Ahmad Manasra inside “Yarka” institution for three additional months; he was transferred to the institution last October immediately after being released from Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital.

He judge also extended the duration of detaining 12-year old Shadi Farrah and 12-year old Ahmad Za’tari inside internal institutions until next June.

The two children were arrested on 30/12/2015 from Street number 1 in Jerusalem and an indictment was submitted against them including charges of “attempt murder and possession of knives”.

The Magistrate judge also extended the period of detaining 12-year old Ali Alqam inside an internal institution for one year; he will be transferred from Akko to Ein Naquba in West Jerusalem. The child was arrested on the 10th of November, 2015 after the light rail’s guard opened fire towards him in the settlement of Pisgat Zi’ev under the pretext of stabbing a guard along with his cousin Mouawya; the child was critically injured with three bullets.

The internal institutions are “rehabilitation institutions” run by the social affairs. Detaining children in such institutions is based on recommendations by the public prosecution and intelligence service; they are considered an alternative to the occupation prisons.
