Prison sentences…extensions of arrest…and releases

The occupation forces arrested on Tuesday 20-year old Mutaz Abu Jamal after raiding his home in the village of Jabal Al-Mukabber south of Jerusalem.

Abu Jamal family explained that the occupation intelligence along with Special Forces raided the house of Mutaz and searched it before arresting him; they also raided other houses for the family for no reason.

The family added that the forces attempted to provoke family members through searching their homes and verbally insulting them which led to the breakout of verbal altercations between both sides.

It is noteworthy that Mutaz Abu Jamal is the brother of Martyr Odai Abu Jamal.

Prison sentences…

On the other hand, the District judge sentenced Mohammad Taha for 12 months of actual imprisonment and a suspended probation of 8 months for three years after he was convicted of throwing stones towards a police vehicle.

Lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud explained that the sentence against Taha is considered one of the first sentences issued after the new law of punishing stone-throwers.

The judge also sentenced Ala’ Abu Issa for 14 months of actual imprisonment and a suspended probation of 10 months for three years.

The occupation authorities decided to renew the administrative arrest imposed on the Jerusalemite prisoner Midhat Obeid for an addition six months; lawyer Mahmoud explained that a session was scheduled for Obeid on 2/5/2016.

The lawyer added that the judge also sentenced Munther Abbasi for a suspended probation of 4 months for two years and an 80-hour course, and sentenced Omar Wazwaz and Mariam Wazwaz for a suspended probation of three months for three years and a 750-NIS fine for each.

The 17-year old Tarek Ziad Bukhari was also sentenced for 17 months of actual imprisonment.

Extensions of arrest…

The judge extended the arrest of Murad Mheisen until 25/4/2016, Baker Aweis until 30/5/2016, Omar Tawil until 9/5/2016, Abdullah Abu Khatee until 2/6/2016, Mohammad Abu Ghannam until 16/6/2016, Mohammad Burqan and Ahmad Abu Roumi and Adam Abu Shamala until 24/4/2016, Odai Yousef until 21/4/2016, Abdullah Abu Asab until 5/5/2016 (conduct officer’s report) and Salameh Obeid until 20/4/2016.

The public prosecution submitted an indictment against the elderly Najib Qawasmi and Khalil Abbasi including charges of “interaction with a prohibited party- Marabouts at Al-Aqsa”.

The center was informed that the forces arrested 17-year old Mohammad Jamjoom two days ago.


The judge decided to release Jihad Sa’eedeh, Fahed Shalabi and Areen Za’aneen with a third-party bail.

He also released the girl Rama Ja’abees on conditions of house-arrest, deportation to the village of Ein Naquba, a 2500-NIS bail and a third-party bail of 25 thousand NIS.

The judge also decided to release Odai Obeid on condition of house-arrest for 14 days; Odai spent 20 days inside the prison’s cells.
