Pictures: A Jerusalemite self-demolished his house in the Old City of Jerusalem…and the municipality demolishes an under-construction in the village of Esawyeh

Nabeeh Al-Basti started on Tuesday demolishing his house in Al-Wad Street in the Old City of Jerusalem in execution of the occupation municipality’s order and to avoid paying high fines as well as actual imprisonment; the municipality ordered him to self-demolish his house under the pretext of building without a permit.

 Al-Basti (53) explained that the occupation municipality recently gave him until the 20th of September to demolish his house after they had issued multiple demolition orders which he postponed to avoid to the demolition.

He added that a hearing session was held at the beginning of July and the judge ordered him to demolish the house or pay a high fine in addition to facing actual imprisonment as well as paying demolition costs to the municipality.

Al-Basti explained that his 60-square meters apartment has been established since 1997. It is on the third floor of a residential building and consists of three rooms and their facilities where he lives with family of 5 individuals (wife and three children).

Al-Basti also mentioned that the municipality imposed on him a 56-thousand NIS building violation fine in the last few years and that a session will be held at the end of next October to make sure he had demolished his home.

In a related matter, the member of follow-up committee in the village of Esawyeh Mohammad Abu Hummos said that the occupation bulldozers along with Israeli forces raided the village of Esawyeh on Tuesday early morning and demolished an under-construction house for Hamada Mahmoud and walls separating the lands of Mahmoud Mahmoud.
