Pictures: Demolishing residential and commercial establishments in Jerusalem

The occupation municipality’s bulldozers executed on Tuesday a wide demolition operation targeting residential, commercial and agricultural establishments in Jerusalem under the pretext of building without a permit.

Wadi Hilweh Information Center explained that the demolitions were executed in the village of Esawyeh and Silwan and the neighborhood of Beit Hanina. Dozens of occupation soldier along with bulldozers and municipality employees raided the Jerusalemite villages and neighborhoods to execute the demolitions.


Mohammad Abu Hummos, member of follow-up committee in the village of Esawyeh, explained that dozens of soldiers raided the village on Tuesday early morning and surrounded a building owned by Hamdan family before storming-in.

Bu Hummos added that the building consists of two floors (first floor included a clothing and accessories store owned by Hani Obeid and a computer store owned by Shukri Abu Sneineh) while the second floor included a residential apartment where a Korean family (parents and four children) lived.

Abu Hummos also added that municipality crews prevented the owners of the establishments from entering their store to empty them and the crews only took out some of the contents. Obeid estimated his losses to be around 70 thousand NIS while Abu Sneineh said his loss was around 20 thousand NIS.

Abu Hummos added that municipality crews raided the eastern part of the village of Esawyeh that is at risk of being seized in favor of “national parks” and swept lands and demolished walls. They also demolished two barracks owned by Farouk Mustafa with an area of 50 square meters.


Municipality’s bulldozers demolished two apartments owned by Abdelkareem Abu Sneineh in Al-Bustan neighborhood in Silwan and a commercial established in the area of Al-Sal’a in Silwan.

Mansour Nijem who is leasing both apartments explained that the occupation forces along with bulldozers raided both houses on Tuesday noon and surrounded them before executing the demolition operation without prior notice.

Nijem added that he had been living in the two apartments for nearly one year with his wife and six children (oldest is 17 and youngest is 8). He explained that the area of each apartment is nearly 50 square meters, and pointed out that the bulldozers deliberately swept and damaged the outside courtyard.

The owner of the house Abdelkareem Abu Sneineh announced his intention to rebuild the apartments.

In the area of Al-Sal’a, the bulldozers demolished a commercial establishment (a tire-repair shop) which is a barracks established several years ago.

Beit Hanina

The municipality’s bulldozers demolished a commercial establishment car dealership) in the neighborhood of Beit Hanina north of Jerusalem owned by Suleiman Muthafar. He explained that the bulldozers demolished his establishment which is consisted of metal beams which he used to park the vehicles under.
