Pictures-Jerusalem…Protests and arrests, and a comprehensive strike in refusal of Trump’s decision
The occupation forces arrested on Thursday several young Jerusalemite men and children while suppressing a demonstration in the area of Damascus Gate and the surrounding streets to condemn the United State’s president’s announcement to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The forces assaulted several participants and pushed them and attempted for hours to empty the area of Damascus Gate and put an end to the demonstration but Jerusalemites continued to protest for hours. Also, a commercial and educational strike took place in the city in refusal of Trump’s decision.
Wadi Hilweh Information Center was informed that the demonstration in Damascus gate started around Thursday noon and lasted until Thursday night in which occupation forces and cavalry units attempted to suppress the participants several times. They also closed the area with metal barricades and prevented Jerusalemites from approaching.
The center added that the forces emptied the courtyard of Damascus Gate and used force against young men and even the elderly. Only a group of women remained in the area and chanted against Trump and his racist decision, and requested the Islamic and Arabic world to move against this decision.
The center explained that the protesters moved to the "American House" in Jerusalem and raised the Palestinian Keffiyeh and the Palestinian flag. The occupation police, who came to the site confiscated the flag and removed them from the vicinity of the American House and pushed some women. Then, they marched in the streets of Jerusalem and returned to the area of Damascus Gate where a large of number of forces were deployed and beat the participants again and surrounded the place.
During the demonstration, occupation forces assaulted press crews and paramedics in the area of Damascus Gate, and also assaulted a group of old men and women. They assaulted and beat a young man who suffers from fractures in his leg and uses crutches to walk.
Wadi Hilweh Information Center’s lawyer explained that the Israeli forces arrested Mustafa Khweis (12), Mohammad Salaymeh (12), Omar Abu Rmeileh, Mahmoud Darwish (17) Abdelrahman Abu Omeir (16), Munther Mahmoud Jneidi (19) and Majd Nader Sa’eedeh (17) on Thursday afternoon.
In the same context, the head of Jerusalemites detainees and prisoners families committee, Amjad Abu Asab, explained that the forces arrested 10 Jerusalemites from the village of Esawyeh on Thursday early morning. They are: Amin Ghareeb, Mohammad Kiswani, Ahmad Dirbas, Mohammad Dari, Yazan Jaber, Fayez Mheisen, Mohammad Ayman Obeid, Anas Abu Asab, Laith Mahmoud and Adam Mustafa. Abu Asab pointed out that the detainees were assaulted and severely beaten and suffered multiple bruises.
