District Court postpones decision on Al-Bustan demolitions
May 12, 2011

The Israeli District Court postponed its decision today regarding the Municipality's demolition plan for Al-Bustan district of Silwan. The presiding judge postponed the decision until May 24, yet did make a recommendation to postpone the demolition for at least one year. A large group gathered outside the court on Salah al-Din Street of East Jerusalem in support for the neighborhood, including Jerusalem residents, senior diplomats, local and international human rights activists and Sheikh Jarrah solidarity activists.

The Jerusalem Municipality's plan to demolish vast tracts of Palestinian property and land in Al-Bustan neighborhood constitutes part of the City of David project. Dozens of homes are slated for demolition to make way for a "biblical garden" project, adjoining the archaeological tourism site in Wadi Hilweh district.
