Sentencing Esshak Taher Arafe to Life Sentence Plus 60 Years or More
On Wednesday the Military Court at Ofer sentenced 25-year-old Esshak Taher Arafe from Ras al Amoud-Silwan to life sentence and 60 more years. He was arrested on 18th August 2011 – 18th day of Ramadan – whilst at work. His house was raided several times and his computer confiscated. His family said he was given several charges, including the following: belonging to the Kataeb of Ez al Din al Qassam, responsibility for the bombing operation in the Ummah buildings in West Jerusalem which killed one tourist and injured a few Israelis, planning another operation supposedly to be carried out a few days before his arrest. He spent three months in the cells of al Maskubiye under investigation, during which time he was prevented from receiving lawyer and family visits. He was then taken to Gilboa's prison in Beer al Sabea; he is currently in Nafkha.
