Basel and Tarek Abbasi are sentenced for actual imprisonment for 4 years
The District Court sentenced 2 Jerusalemites for actual imprisonment for 4 years. The two men are: Basel Harbi Abbasi, 21, and Tarek Saadeh Abbasi, 21. Basel’s mother said that the Judge sentenced her son for 4 years of actual imprisonment and up for parole for 3 years for a year. The Israeli prosecution accused them of starting a fire in “Bet Yonathan” settlement in Silwan. The Israeli forces arrested them on the 3rd of July, 2011. Basel’s mother explained that while her son was arrested and charged with throwing Molotov’s, the court sentenced him to 17 years of actual imprisonment on a different charge which is “attacking a settlers’ vehicle” in Silwan. She confirmed that the charge of setting up fire in the settlement is fabricated and has no origins since her son was under “house arrest”; pointing out that in one of the court sessions, some guys from Silwan were brought and were charged with setting up a fire in the settlement and they denied knowledge of Basel and any relationship with him but the court insisted on accusing him of the charge.
