May 21, 2013

The Israeli bulldozers demolished this morning two houses belonging to the Sha’lan family in Khallet Al-Ayn in Al-Tur village east of Jerusalem. The house’s owner, Um Mahmoud Sha’lan, told Wadi Hilweh Information Center that a large Israeli force raided the house around 6 a.m. and completely surrounded the area, and one of the forces’ individuals opened one of the house’s windows and informed them to evacuate the house in order to demolish it, trying to provoke the family members who were still sleeping. Um Mahmoud said that the bulldozers demolished 2 houses with an area of 180 square meters built 12 years ago on a 500-square meter land which was bought by the family, pointing out that the family has been paying the property tax “arnona” for the past six years, and that there has been violation building fees imposed on both houses more than once where the last fee was 50 thousand NIS. She said they are trying to annually submit an application to issue a license for the house, but to no avail, and the first demolition order was issued 3 years ago, knowing that 7 family members live in the two houses. The Israeli bulldozers also razed and removed the trees planted around the house.
