The release of three prisoners from Silwan, Al-Esawyeh and Sur Baher
May 22, 2013

The administration of Galboo’ prison released three prisoners in the last couple of days. They are: Abdelraheem Khalil Abbasi from Silwan, Ibrahim Mheisen from Al-Esawyeh and Mohammad Ali Khalil Hamada.

Abdelraheem Khalil Abbasi finished his 3-year sentence in the Israeli prisons under charges of throwing Molotov cocktails in Silwan, and participating in the activities against the opening of “Hurva Synagogue” in the old city and assaulting a settlers’ march.

Abbasi said: “while being released, the prisoner Ibrahim and I had mixed emotions between the joy of freedom and longing to meet with friends and family, and the great sadness for leaving thousands of prisoners in Israeli jails.”

He explained that the administration of Galboo’ prison deliberately delayed the time of release until four o'clock in the afternoon, and said: “they got us out of the room, handcuffed our hands and then took us to a cell – customized to punish prisoners-, and we waited from 6 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon to be released,” and added: “we felt the procedures were more like a re-arrest and not a release since the release procedures should not take more than a few minutes, but the prison’s administration deliberately exhausts the prisoner psychologically and manipulate his temper as well as his family members who are waiting outside the prison’s gates.”

The prisoners sent their message through prisoner Abbasi as they emphasized the importance of work that should be done by the parties to achieve national unity, and work hard to release the prisoners especially the veterans and sick, and not only praise them in the media; the prisoners also demanded to activate the popular movement and the media to support their issue.

When talking about the possibility of releasing the veteran prisoners, he said that there are talks in prison about the possibility of release, but there is no confirmation or a time set for the release from any official source.

He explained that during his stay in the cell before being released, he met with the prisoner Ammar Besais who is on a hunger strike for two weeks now as he demands to be re-investigated of the charges against him in order to ease the judgment imposed on him as he is sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The release of the Jerusalemite prisoner Mohammad Hamada

The administration of Galboo’ prison also released the Jerusalemite prisoner Mohammad Ali Khalil Hamada 44, after spending 2 and a half years in prison.

The Jerusalemites Prisoners and Detainees Families Committee explained that Mohammad was arrested on 05/12/2010 and was sentenced for 3 years and 4 months; he submitted a request to ease the judgement against him by one third and was denied more than once, and then his family received a call from him saying that he was released. Mohammad is a resident of Sur Baher; he is married and a father of 5 children.
