September 23, 2013

The Israeli forces assaulted five young men from Jerusalem on Sunday night while they were driving near the police station in Jabal Al-Mukabber. Wadi Hilweh Information Center was informed that the police pulled over a car that was driven by 22-year old Suhaib Basem Abu Jamal while driving by in the neighbourhood of Jabal Al-Mukabber. They checked the IDs of the young men and then hit them on their faces under the pretext of “illegal passing in the area”. Abu Jamal’s family explained that their son was taken inside the precinct in the neighbourhood, and was assaulted and severely beat with batons and forces’ hands and legs which led to several bruises all over his body, while the other four young men were released without taking them inside the precinct. Abu Jamal’s family pointed out that the police tried to force their son to sign a paper which states that he was not assaulted or beat by the police individuals but he refused and was then released with no conditions after being detained for one and a half hours.
