A sit-in in Shu’fat refugee camp in protest against the distribution of demolition orders
November 3, 2013

The Islamic and National forces organized on Sunday a sit-in near the military checkpoint of Shu’fat refugee camp in memory of Balfour’s Declaration day and to protest against the demolition order that the municipality’s crews distributed on the residents of Ras Khamees and Shihadeh in Shu’fat refugee camp. The participants held the Palestinian flag and banner that had slogans that said “No to the policy of demolishing houses” and “We, the residents of Shu’fat refugee camp refuse the demolition of our houses….we are the symbol of resistance” and “building the Wall, demolishing houses and confiscating lands are all racist crimes” and “we are staying despite the demolition and no matter what”. Islamic and National figures denounced the targeting of the city of Jerusalem in general and the fact that they are being harassed by the Jerusalem municipality as well as the other Israeli departments in order to make them leave the city. During the sit-in, the Israeli forces that were stationed at the military camp fired sound and gas bombs to disperse the participants. The Jerusalem municipality crews had distributed administrative demolition orders to 200 residential buildings in the neighbourhoods of Ras Khamees and Shihadeh north of the city of Jerusalem; they also took pictures of dozens of buildings, a mosque and a school.
