“Antiquities Authority” attempts to confiscate a land in Silwan and the arrest of 3 citizens
Employees of the Israeli Antiquities Authority raided a piece of land owned by the family of Abu Rmeileh on Monday morning in the neighbourhood of Wadi Al-Rababeh in Silwan to do some excavation works in the area; one step before confiscating the land.
The Israeli forces arrested three citizens when they confronted the employees and they are: 38-year old Amir Abu Rmeileh, 25-year old Sami Abu Rmeileh and Mousa Abu Rmeileh. They were all taken to Salah Eddin Street police station for investigation.
Murad Abu Rmeileh explained that the family was surprised when the employees of the Antiquities Authority raided their land which almost one Dunom (1000 square meters) and started digging. The young men of the family confronted the employees and prevented them from working in their land where verbal clashes broke out between the two sides. The police then arrived and arrested three young men from the family of Abu Rmeileh.
Abu Rmeileh explained that the Antiquities Authority tried to confiscate the land and do some excavation works 10 years ago under the pretext of “digging a route to the Jewish cemetery” and the family refused their request then.
