Sentencing Suhaib and Shidad Al-A’war
The District court sentenced on Monday the 16-year old children Suhaib Arafat Al-A’war and Mohammad Al-A’war from Silwan. Mohammad Mahmoud, Al-Dameer organization lawyer, said that the District court judge sentenced Suhaib for 21 months and Shidad for 13 months of actual imprisonment and a suspended probation of 6 months for 3 years on charges of throwing stones and Molotov cocktails in Silwan; note that they were arrested on the 5th of last May. Suhaib Al-A’war Wadi Hilweh Information Center pointed out that Suhaib was arrested 7 times. The first arrest occurred when he was 13 years old and was detained for several months in the Israeli prisons in addition to house arrest for 10 months at his house. He was also isolated to the neighbourhood of Jabal Al-Mukabber and was under house arrest for 4 months; note that he was arrested twice in the early morning hours during the house arrest. Suhaib was unable to finish his education and he only finished 9th grade because of being under house arrest and actual imprisonment. He is currently detained in Majiddo prison and his father is not allowed to visit him because he was arrested for 3 months 22 years ago. Shidad Al-A’war Shidad was arrested 6 times and had spent varying periods in the Israeli prisons despite his young age but was able to continue his education and is currently being detained in Hasharon prison. The first arrest was when he was 13 and was also imposed to house arrest several times; note that Shidad is accused of another cause which he has not been tried for yet. The Israeli forces arrested Shidad’s mother last June while visiting her son at Hasharon prison because a female soldier found in cell phone in the mother’s dress and prevented her from visiting her son for two months.
