Dozens of citizens were injured during the violent clashes that broke out in the neighbourhood of Shu’fat after kidnapping and burning the 16-year old Martyr Mohammad Hussein Abu Khdeir. The Palestinian Red Crescent said that 175 citizens were injured during the clashes in Shu’fat where some of them were transferred to the hospital and the most were treated on the spot. The Martyr’s family explained in an interview with Wadi Hilweh Information Center that Mohammad left his house at 3:30 a.m. to go and perform the Dawn Prayer in the mosque of Shu’fat near his house. While standing on the main street, the assault occurred and his mother explained that after knowing of the incident of kidnapping a child and the fact that her son was not at the Mosque, she tried calling his cell phone but it was turned off. Mohammad’s father said: “I immediately informed the police after I was informed of the incident by witnesses who were in the area to perform the Dawn prayer. They heard Mohammad screaming and tried to follow them but to no avail.” The father added that he conditioned the presence of a Palestinian doctor during the autopsy of the body of his son in Abu Kbeir Institute and explained that DNA tests were performed on him and his wife at Al-Maskobyeh. The family of Abu Khdeir denied the news reported by the Israeli media that the kidnapping of the boy was due to a family dispute.
