The Israeli Defense Minister orders to transfer a Jerusalemite prisoner to administrative detention
The Israeli Defense Minister ordered to transfer the 24-year old prisoner Midhat Obeid to administrative detention for six months. Mohammad Mahmoud, Al-Dameer organization lawyer, explained that a session was held at the District court to discuss the Minister’s decision regarding transferring his client Midhat Obeid to administrative arrest for six months and the court session was postponed until 13/07/2014 to make a decision. The lawyer added that the public prosecution confirmed during the session the lack of evidence to convict and submit an indictment against Midhat Obeid. He pointed out that his client was arrested at the beginning of July and was interrogated in Al-Maskobyeh in “Room Number 4” on charges of membership in an organization. The lawyer also stressed that the decision of the Defense Minister is considered a precedent by transferring a prisoner into administrative arrest. It is noteworthy that Obeid had spent several months in the Israeli prisons.
