November 11, 2014

Dozens of the residents of Shu’fat refugee camp suffocated on Tuesday morning during clashes that broke out at the checkpoint of the refugee camp after the Israeli forces closed it both ways. Thaer Fasfoos, spokesman of Fateh Movement in the refugee camp, explained that the soldiers provoked the locals since the early morning and closed the checkpoint. They also assaulted several students and workers using tear gas grenades and rubber bullets in addition to pushing and beating them which led to the breakout of violent clashes in the area. Fasfoos added that the occupation soldiers detained the 13-year old student Tasneem Haddad in a room at the checkpoint and assaulted and beat her. Fasfoos explained that the child was standing at the checkpoint waiting for the soldiers to open it so she can head to school, but the soldiers pushed her and tried to remove the Palestinian scarf she was wearing; the student defended herself and bit one of the soldiers. Fasfoos added that the forces used force against her and pulled her inside a room where she was detained and clashes got more violent afterwards; committees in the refugee camp intervened in order to release the child. He also added that one student was injured with a rubber bullet in his stomach and another in his shoulder during the clashes.
