A Jerusalemite gives his building to the Islamic Awqaf to protect it
November 12, 2014

The Jerusalemite Saleh Ibrahim Shyoukhi gave his residential building located in the “Middle Neighborhood” in Silwan to the Islamic Awqaf to protect its ownership. The head of the committee to protect lands and property in Silwan, Suleiman Abbasi (Abu Ma’moon), explained that Saleh Ibrahim Shyoukhi transferred the ownership of his building to the Islamic Awqaf on Wednesday in the presence of two of the Awqaf employees and several locals. Abbasi added that the residential building consists of three floors and has been established for 8 years. Saleh was forced to close it after the occupation municipality ordered him to stop the construction since he violated the building permit and he has paid building violation fees throughout the last few years and kept trying to obtain a building permit and that is why he never finished it from the inside and never lived in it. Abbasi explained that Shyoukhi transferred the ownership of the building to the Islamic Awqaf because of the unprecedented attack on Jerusalemites’ property especially in Silwan. Abbasi confirmed that the building will be renovated and they will do their best to help Shyoukhi so the building won’t stay abandoned. Abbasi appreciated what Shyoukhi did to protect his building and encouraged all Jerusalemites who are worried about their houses from being taken over by settlers or if their houses are abandoned to follow the steps of Shyoukhi and transfer the ownership to the Islamic Awqaf stressing on the point that they won’t lose the right to their property.
