The Supreme Court postpones the decision regarding the deportation of the Jerusalem Members of Parliament (MPs) indefinitely
December 8, 2014

The Israeli Supreme Court postponed on Monday the session for making a decision regarding the Jerusalem MPs indefinitely. The lawyer (Hasan Jbareen, director of Justice Organization, Usama Sa’di and Fadi Qawasmi) expressed their surprise and disapproval of the sudden postponement of the session which was supposed to be held on Tuesday to make a decision regarding the deportation of the Jerusalem MPs and Minister of Jerusalem (MP Mohammad Abu Ter who is detained in the occupation prisons, MPs Mohammad Totah, Ahmad Aton and the former Minister of Jerusalem Khaled Abu Arafeh who are all deported to Ramallah). The session was supposed to be held on Tuesday the 9th of December, 2014 in the presence of the whole Supreme Court Commission (nine judges) after deliberations that lasted for more than seven years. The lawyers confirmed that all the merits of this case are not based on legal and moral grounds and contrary to international law and even with democratic standards and a flagrant violation of the immunity of MPs. They also pointed out that this case is considered one of the most dangerous cases against the locals of Jerusalem and their presence in the city, and if the deportation orders stand then it will justified to deport any Jerusalemite without paying attention to any legal regulations and procedures even if the person’s residence is inside the city of Jerusalem. For this, we call upon all Palestinians and their leadership as well as the human rights institutions and the international community to stand behind this issue and support it and defend it so it won’t become the gate of deporting Jerusalemites from their city especially in those harsh times the city of Jerusalem is undergoing.
