The District court cancels the case of confiscating a land in the neighborhood of Wad Qaddoum I Silwan
March 20, 2015

The District court in Jerusalem cancelled the case submitted by the occupation municipality to confiscate a land owned by Fatmeh Abbasi in the neighborhood of Wad Qaddoum in Silwan in order to establish a school on it. Mohammad Amin Abbasi, Fatmeh’s son, said that the District court recently decided to cancel the case of confiscating his mother’s land and asked the municipality’s lawyer to stop all the procedures related to that case because confiscating the land contradicts with the municipality’s decision of sorting the land in September of last year. Abbasi explained that they were surprised in 2013 when the municipality’s employees hung a note on the front door of their building asking them to attend a court session regarding the land where their building is built. The municipality claimed that the land is “public property” and is among ten Dunoms in the area in which the municipality intends to confiscate in order to establish a school. The land is around one Dunom (1000 sq) and has two apartments built on where Fatmeh Abbasi and her daughter live in one, and Mohammad and his family live in the other.
