20 thousand visitors to Wadi Hilweh Information Center in the past six years
Wadi Hilweh Information Center-Silwan reported that 20 thousand visitors visited the center since it was established in 2009 until the beginning of April 2015. The Information Center mentioned that thousands of Palestinians, Foreign delegations, supporters, official delegations from various European Parliaments, representatives from consulates and embassies, European Ministers and press delegations, researchers and members of the media visited the information center during the past six years. The Center added that its team organized tours for the delegations to inform them about Silwan and its history and civilizations. They also explained the various Israeli ambitions in the town and its quest to control the properties in addition to depriving people of their right to construction, education and deprived children from their right to play because of focusing on settlement projects in the town. Jawad Siam, director of Wadi Hilweh Information Center, said that the center’s staff and volunteers were able to highlight the suffering of Jerusalemite citizens in the city due to the Israeli laws imposed on them and also revealed the racial discrimination policy practiced against Jerusalemites using the limited capabilities of the center. The Center added that they were able to deliver the suffering of Jerusalemites to European Parliaments through the visits of European and American official delegations and showed the falsity of the “Israeli Democracy”. Lawyer Ahmad Rweidi said that Wadi Hilweh Information Center is considered one of the information sources that provide both official parties and media with information. It is also a meeting place for international institutions which provides them with different information, and considered it a bridge between the Jerusalemite citizen and the various levels of domestic and international decision. The lawyer added that the presence of the center in such an area where continuous tension occurs helps in accurately and preliminary documenting events which are very important when heading to any official party; locally and on the international level. It is noteworthy that lawyer Rweidi participated last Wednesday in welcoming a German delegation at the Center’s headquarters where he gave a presentation about the current situation in the city of Jerusalem and focused on the demographic battle and using unjust laws against Jerusalemites. He also explained the daily living conditions of Jerusalemites under the presence of the Israeli occupation. Lawyer Rweidi talked about the official position of the leadership at the political level regarding heading to the International Criminal Court, and stressed on the importance of supporting the Palestinian political position to put pressure on Israel to stop the practice of racism against the inhabitants of the city.
