The District and Magistrate judges sentenced five Jerusalemites for durations that varied between six months and two years.
Al-Dameer organization lawyer, Mohammad Mahmoud, explained that the District judge sentenced the 35-year old Hani Yaser Hassouneh Gheith for two years of actual imprisonment, a suspended probation of 12 months for three years and a 3000-NIS fine on charges of “organizing protests and distributing firecrackers”. The District judge also sentenced the 17-year old Ibrahim Ali Naji Abu Nijmeh for 19 months of actual imprisonment, the 18-year old Mohammad Khaled Ismaeel Abu Ghannam for 16 months and the 15-year old child Jamal Emad Sidqi Za’tari for 6 months and one day of actual imprisonment; they were all sentenced for a suspended probation of 4 months for two years. The Magistrate judge sentenced Issa Sidawi for 6 months and one day of actual imprisonment and a suspended probation of 4 months for two years. The judge also sentenced Amir Farroukh for a 120- hour course, a 500-NIS fine and a suspended probation of 5 months for three years. Mohammad Zaghal was also sentenced for 40 days of “free public work” and a suspended probation for two years. Extending the arrest of Hatem Salah The Magistrate judge extended the arrest of the 35-year old Hatem Salah until next Sunday on charges of “attempting to assault the light rail’s guards”. Lawyer Tarek Barghouth from the Ministry of Prisoners and lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud represented Hatem Salah at court. Hatem was shot in his leg by the light rail’s guards after the guards claimed that he attacked them and was trying to stab them. Later on, the guards’ false claims were obvious and the police revealed the fact that Hatem wasn’t carrying any sharp tools with him and did not intend to carry out a stabbing attack at the light rail’s station and did not have any sharp tools on him and was only carrying his belt in his hand. After searching him, they found out that there was no reason to shoot him. Extending the arrest of four Jerusalemites The Magistrate judge extended the arrest of Baker Aweis and Ahmad Mazen Al-Razem until Sunday, while the District judge extended the arrest of Sha’ban Hamed until 10/6/2015 and Yazan Mheisen until Sunday.
