Renewing the previous prison sentence of the Jerusalemite prisoner Samer Essawi
Ofar court renewed on Sunday the previous prison sentence imposed on the 35-year old Jerusalemite prisoner Samer Tarek Essawi under the pretext of “violating the Shalit deal releasing conditions”. Amjad Abu Asab, head of Jerusalemites detainees and prisoners families committee, explained that Essawi was arrested on 11/4/2002 after being chased by the occupation authorities and the military court sentenced him for 30 years in prison. Essawi spent 10 years and was then released within the “Shalit” deal and was then arrested again under the pretext of “violating the release conditions”. After being arrested, Essawi went on a hunger strike and the occupation government bowed to his demands and released him but he was recently arrested again. Abu Asab added that Essawi was arrested in June 2014 with a series of arrests carried out by the Israeli authorities that targeted 70 freed prisoners who were released in the Shalit deal and the occupation authorities renewed the sentenced of 34 prisoners; note that most of them are serving life sentences. It is noteworthy that seven freed Jerusalemite prisoners were among the 70 arrested and the releasing committee imposed life sentences on six of them retroactively.
