Silwan: Assaulting Abu Mayaleh family, arrests and calls for interrogation

The occupation forces assaulted last Tuesday night the family of Qasem Abu Mayaleh after raiding their home in the neighborhood of Batn Al-Hawa in Silwan. Abu Mayaleh family explained to Wadi Hilweh Information Center that the occupation forces raided their home on Tuesday night, assaulted and insulted the family members. They also arrested Mohammad Abu Mayaleh and called 15-year old Aya Abu Mayaleh and her brother Azmi for interrogation. Um Azmi said: “My children were at alone at home when the forces raided our house. They turned our house into a military camp and were deployed all over it. Family members were detained in one room and the forces searched the entire house for no reason.” She added: “During the raid, the soldiers insulted the family members resulting into verbal altercations between them and my children and the soldiers brutally assaulted and beat the young men.” She continued: “The soldiers targeted my 21-year old son Azmi and hit him on his eye while another hit him on the back of his head. Azmi fell on the ground and lost consciousness for more than two hours. The forces prevented family members from providing any treatment to Azmi or even approaching him; soldiers provided first aid to Azmi due to his critical condition.” Um Azmi added: “Azmi was in critical condition and was not responding and an ambulance was called and he was transferred to Shaare Zedek hospital.” She also said: “The forces attempted to prevent me from entering my house of going with Azmi in the ambulance.” She explained that Azmi was injured in the retina of the eye along with bruises on his head. She also pointed out the forces arrested her19-year old son Mohammad and interrogated him for several hours in Salah Eddin Street police station; he was released after signing a financial bail. The forces also called the 15-year old Aya Abu Mayaleh and her brother Azmi for interrogation and released them after signing financial bail; Aya was accused of spitting on a soldier during the raid.
