Silwan: Tax campaigns and orders to evacuate warehouses
November 26, 2015

The occupation authorities carried out a tax campaign on commercial establishments in Silwan. Amir Nassar, owner of a car-repair shop, explained to Wadi Hilweh Information Center that the Israeli authorities (municipality and tax authority) along with police and Special Forces have been targeting commercial stores in Silwan for the past week by randomly issuing tickets to store-owners and asking them to follow-up with the tax authority and municipality to issue permits and licenses for their stores. Nassar added that the occupation authorities handed evacuation orders for several warehouses for no reason. They were given 4 months to execute the orders and asked the owners to head to the municipality after evacuating. Nassar added that the municipality crews issued him a 475-NIS ticket and hung similar tickets on several other stores in Silwan that were closed. Nassar pointed out that dozens of people live off these stores, and said: “The occupation harasses Jerusalemites in their livelihoods using all methods.”
