In pictures: Settlers write racist slogans on a church in Jerusalem calling to slaughter Christians
Settlers wrote racist slogans after Saturday midnight on the doors of “Dormition Abbey” in Mount Zion in Jerusalem. The Bishops Council adviser in the Holy Lands, Wadi’ Abu Nassar, issued a statement entitled “a new act of sabotage against Christians in Jerusalem…till when? Abu Nassar explained that the priests in the monastery heard noise around 2:30 a.m. and found the racist inciting slogans afterwards. He also added that the slogans called to slaughter and kill Christians. Among the slogans written on were: “Send Christians to hell… You must slay the idolaters…Erase his name and memory…Revenge of Israel’s sons is coming”. statement by the Latin Patriarchate
Three weeks after the vandalism against the Salesian convent in Beit Jamal, another act has occurred against the Mount Sion Abbey, Jerusalem, a significant place for interreligious dialogue between Judaism and Christianity. The Latin Patriarchate condemns very strongly this aggression and repeats that the unique remedy for such behaviour is to control the kind of education given in the schools where these young people have been educated, and to follow up those who incite intolerance against Christians. It is regrettable that such episodes of hatred come 50 years after “Nostra Aetate” which founded the interreligious dialogue of the Catholic Church with other religions, and which turned a new page between Catholic Church and Judaism. I hope that the perpetrators will be arrested before they put proposed threats into action.
