The Supreme Court orders to release the bodies of Jerusalemite Martyrs

During a session held on Thursday to discuss the appeal submitted to set a date to release the bodies of Jerusalemite Martyrs, the Israeli Supreme Court issued a decision to gradually release the bodies in order to bury them before the month of Ramadan.

Lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud from Al-Dameer organization and lawyer Suhad Bshara from Justice Organization represented the families of Jerusalemite Martyrs.

Lawyer Mahmoud explained that the Prime Minister retreated from the decision of not releasing the Martyrs’ bodies and gave the Minister of Internal Security and Minister of Defense the option to make a decision; lawyer Mahmoud pointed out that the Minister of Internal Security approved the recommendation of the police to release the bodies.

Lawyer Mahmoud added that the Supreme Court recommended to release the detained bodies and requested the police to take the month of Ramadan in consideration and try to release them before it starts and also taking into consideration the security situation in the city. Accordingly, the public prosecution promised to work on releasing the bodies before Ramadan.

The Court also recommended to quickly release the Martyrs’ bodies that were not released even after signing an agreement with their families, they are: Abdel Muhsen Hassouneh, Mohammad Abed Nimer and Hasan Manasra. Afterwards, the releasing process will be according to seniority; bodies should be removed from the freezers 48 hours prior to the start of the releasing process.

The occupation authorities are still detaining the bodies of 12 Jerusalemite Martyrs in their freezers, they are:

  10. Fouad Abu Rajab (21)
  11. Mohammad Jamal Kaloti (21)
