Khayyat family regained on Thursday its home in the neighborhood of Wadi Hilweh in Silwan which was illegally seized by Elad settlement organization in September 2014.

Lawyer Medhat Deebeh, the family’s lawyer, explained that the family of late Shafiq Khayyat regained their home on Thursday after being seized and confiscated for a year and eight months after a legal battle in the Magistrate and District Courts that ended on Thursday when the family took back their home.

Deebeh explained that the Magistrate court decided to evacuate the first floor of the family’s property in Silwan and the decision was ratified twice by the District Court; it also issued a final decision at the end of last March to immediately evacuate the first floor.

The lawyer also explained that the District Court in Jerusalem issued a decision to reject the appeal submitted by “Elad settlement organization” and “Kendall real estate” company against the Magistrate court’s decision in December 2015 which also rejected the organization’s request to reconsider the precautionary prevention order issued in November 2014 that required the settlement organization to evacuate one of the houses of Khayyat family that was seized along with several other houses by the organization with the help of Israeli police and private security firms in September 2014.

Lawyers Medhat Deebeh, Majed Ighbaryeh, Mohammad Dahleh and Saeed Daqqeh had represented Khayyat family before the courts.
