June 5, 2016

The yearly “flags” march was organized on Sunday on the anniversary of occupying the eastern part of Jerusalem in 1967. It initiated from West Jerusalem and marched in the streets of Jerusalem reaching Al-Buraq Square.

Wadi Hilweh Information Center was informed that thousands of settlers launched a huge march from West Jerusalem towards Al-Buraq Square and passed through Damascus Gate on the anniversary of occupying the city of Jerusalem in 1967 and unifying its eastern and western parts. The march took place after the occupation forces closed several intersections and roads in the city of Jerusalem and established iron barriers. Dozens of policemen, Special Forces, borders control and intelligence personnel were deployed in the streets of the city and along the path of the march especially in the areas of Damascus Gate, Nablus Street and Herod’s Gate which obstructed the movement of Jerusalemites.

Settlers raised Israeli flags during the march and chanted racist and provocative slogans.

During the march, a group of Jerusalemites gathered in the area of Damascus Gate and raised Palestinian flags amid a complete closure on the area; settlers verbally insulted the Jerusalemites in an attempt to provoke them.
